Hi, I'm Rachel Clair

My love affair with writing began when I was eight, thanks to my dad’s old, clunky laptop. Picture writing on a several-inch-wide green text screen and saving files to a floppy disk (yes, I’m dating myself here, lol). I would lose myself for hours, weaving stories in my room.

However, the world nudged me towards a more practical path since writing wasn’t considered a “real” career. I channeled my passion into writing stellar research papers, eventually earning a PhD in health psychology.

But, when a rare neurological disorder turned my world upside down, I decided it was time to toss the “shoulds” to the curb and embrace what I truly loved— writing. I returned to academia for an MFA in Creative Writing. True to my overachieving nature, I graduated as valedictorian.

I started my professional journey as a freelance nonfiction ghostwriter, hitting an exhilarating milestone by writing a bestseller for an Advantage Media (Forbes Books) client.

During my ghostwriting career, I noticed a common thread among my clients: they felt overwhelmed by the book-writing process, suffocated by self-doubt, and struggled to find their unique voice. Witnessing their “aha” moments, when my guidance helped them break through barriers, hone their author voices, and embrace storytelling, was incredibly rewarding.

I noticed a trend among my ghostwriting clients: they felt overwhelmed by the book-writing process, drowned in self-doubt, and struggled to find their unique voice. Seeing those “aha” moments when my guidance helped them break through blocks, hone their author voice, and embrace storytelling was incredibly rewarding.

This realization inspired me to transition to editing, empowering authors and nonwriters alike to unlock their creative potential, refine their writing skills, find their voice, and share their messages with the world. I am now fortunate to work with more clients and make a larger impact.

My mission is to make the editing process less daunting. I understand how nerve-wracking it is to have someone read your precious words, especially when they’re not publication-ready, which is why I adopt a gentle, empathetic approach to editing.

As a proud member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), I continue to hone my editing skills. I’ve had the pleasure of working on a variety of writing and editing projects, from books to websites, for psychologists, medical doctors, business owners, startups, wellness coaches, government agencies, and both B2B and B2C businesses.

I live with my husband, three cats, a German Shepherd, and a flock of chickens in the Finger Lakes region in New York. When I’m not assisting writers and businesses, I’m working on my cozy mystery novel, baking, and homesteading.
